TAICHIRO MORINAGA The First Chocolate Maker of Japan

     When did Japanese people eat a chocolate at first? And when did Japanese people MAKE a chocolate at first? Iwakura Mission visited a chocolate factory in France at 1873. Yonezu FUGETSUDO hired sweets makers from Europe and sold chocolates and other kind of sweets in Japan at 1878. TAICHIRO MORINAGA, who had sold chocolate cream since 1899, started making a quarter pound chocolate bar in Japan at 1909. Taichiro was the first Japanese who made a chocolate in Japan.

     Taichiro’s sweets company MORINAGA has been making popular sweets products for a century. So many grandfathers and grandmothers of kids in Japan ate caramels, chocolates, and cocoa of MORINAGA in their childhood. Also a lot of kids get MORINAGA sweets from their grandfathers and grandmothers now. All generations in Japan love MORINAGA sweets.

     We can get the sweets products of MORINAGA at convenience store, supermarket, and some shops in Japan and these are not expensive. But now, high-grade brand shop of MORINAGA opened in Tokyo, Shinjuku and Kobe.

     Hi-CROWN was on sale in 1964. The chocolate series was richer one than other chocolate products sold in Japan at that time. It was sensational for Japanese people. The package was similar to ones of cigarette. Kids and adults liked this elegant chocolate. Hi-CROWN was one of the best and most popular chocolates of MORINAGA history.

 

     MORINAGA had stopped selling it for long years, but restated selling it. TAICHIRO MORINAGA is a shop of new high brand sweets of MORINAGA. The shop sell Hi-CROWN with new 5 flavors. The classic 3 flavors, Classic Milk (red), Classic Nut (orange), and Classic Crunch (blue) are made in a same way of 1964. Melty Milk (pink) and Dark Milk (brown) are new milk chocolates. Uji-matcha (green) is Japanese flavor using matcha of Kyoto. There are Pistachio (light green) and Caramelize (yellow) too.

     There are other sweets products at the shop of TAICHIRO MORINAGA. Caramel Baum is Baumkuchen with caramel. It smells sweet very much. The package is well-known because it is same as MORINAGA caramel. Kids love this sweet taste and smell. They will be happy when they see the Caramel Baum once.

     There is pretty financier at the shop. Cubic Financier is in a pink box. It forms cubic. The outside tastes bitter. The food feeling of inside is different from usual financiers. It is like Mochi. You can get the new food feeling of financier only at TAICHIRO MORINAGA.
